Recently in class we learned about Sir Isaac Newton and the three laws he developed about the states on motion. These laws show how motion is caused by a force or forces. The first law of motion states that an object at rest will always remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion at constant velocity unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Sir Isaac called "the tendency to remain in motion of rest" inertia. The first laws also tells us that acceleration and force are related because if an object wants to accelerate a force needs to push it. An example of this could be if you a throw a bowling ball with the same force you throw a tennis ball, the tennis ball will go farther because it has less mass.
The second law of motion talks about how acceleration and force are related. It shows how more heavier objects or objects with more mass move at the same distance as lighter objects or objects with less mass. The formula that Isaac come with for finding out the force is force= mass multiplied by acceleration. For example, if you are trying to push a car, which will cause it to accelerate, and then you push 5 times harder then how much the car move will be 5 times faster.
The third law of motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. An easier way to understand this is that all forces come in pairs. An example of the third law of motion is when a space shuttle takes off into space because it pushs downward but goes upward.

Social Studies- earthquake in New Jersey

On February 02, 2009 there was a minor earthquake in central New Jersey. Yes you read it right!!!! There was a earthquake in New Jersey!!! We usually hear about earthquakes happening on the west coast but there was one right here in out home state!! Won-Young Kim, a scientist at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, said that the earthquake happened at 10:34 and had a preliminary magnitude of 3.0. Even though no one got hurt the earthquake caused some panic and many calls were made to 911. Many people thought that there was an explosion or a bomb went off but police officers reassured everyone saying that it was only a minor earthquake. When I first heard about the earthquake in New Jersey i was really surprised because I didn't think that earthquakes could happen in New Jersey but i was also thankful becuase it wasn't a really big earthquakes and no one got hurt.

Science- current event

Who- Climate scientists around the world and Professor Eric Steig at the University of Washington
What- Instead of getting cooler like all scientists were saying, is being affected by global warming like the rest of the world. For a while now, scientists have been saying that while the rest of the Earth has been getting warmer, Antarctica has been getting cooler. But now research shows that Antarctica has join the rest of the continents and is being effected by global warming.
Where- In Antarctica and the University of Washington
When- Since the late 1970s some parts of Antarctica have been cooling is Fall but recently the studies show that most of Antarctica has been getting warmer since global worming first started.
Why- because of global warming!
My Opinion- I think its kind of weird how scientists thought that Antarctica was getting cooler while the rest of the Earth is getting warmer. I also think that its weird how parts of Antarctica are getting cooler while other parts are getting warmer.

Social Studies- Inauguration

One January 20th, Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States and Joe Biden as vice president. Barack Obama is the first African American president of America. After the inauguration there was a parade and over 20 million people were their to watch it. Even though our country still has many problems still left to solve, we are hoping our new president might be able to solve them.
The first article talks about President Obama's speech, him signing his first documents and the parade. The speech talked about how ending the war in Iraq and stopping the disputes on Capitol Hill. After the speech Barack Obama headed over to Washington's National Mall to sign his first document as the president of The United States. Many of the people who he nominated for cabinet were also there. Later on in the day senate approved most of the nominations.
The second article talked about the parade that was held after Barack Obama was sworn in. The parade started at the Capitol Building and ended at the White House. Even though it was 27 degrees, it didn't stop thousands of people coming. Over 13000 people from all 50 states participated in the parade including re-enactors from a black Civil War regiment, World War II's surviving Tuskegee Airmen, and Freedom Riders from the civil rights movement. A while after the parade started, the first family and Joe Biden's family got out out of their limo and walked the rest of the way.
I think that its great our country has a new president and hope he can bring us out of the economic crisis the country is currently facing. I think his plans and ideas will benefit our country greatly and that he will bring America back to the top again.

Current events- What is Rudolph?

WHO: Wildlife experts at Texas A&M University, Greg Finstad and Alice Blue-McLendon, a veterinary medicine professor who specializes in deer.

WHAT: A silly subject usually discussed on the internet is now being making many people wonder, "are Santa's reindeer guys or girls?" Alice Blue-McLendon says that they were most probably female because most male reindeer or bulls lose their antlers right before Christmas. Another reason for why Rudolph might be female is because a boy reindeer would not be proud of a shiny nose that glows. Alice says, "Females like accessories. I think that fits because females like bling. We like shiny stuff.

MY OPINION- I personally think that Rudolph is a guy because his name sounds like a guy's name. Also because in Christmas movies and songs about him they say "he" not "she".

Class response- Symbiosis

In class we have been learning about symbiosis and symbiotic relationships. Symbiosis is a close relationship between two organisms in which one organism livers near, on or even inside another organism and in which at least one organism benefits. The three types of symbiotic relationships are: commensalism, mutualism and parasitism.
Commensalism is a reltionship in which one organism benefits while other is not harmed. An example of commensalism is the relationship between a bird and a tree because a bird uses a tree as a home for it's nest and the tree doesn't benefit or get harmed.
Mutualism is a form of symbiosis in which both organisms benefit. An example of mutualism is the relationship between a dog and a human because the human provides the dog shelter and food and in return the dog gives the human love and companionship. This is a good example because both the organisms benefit.
Parasitism is a form of symbiosis in which one organism benefits but the other one is harmed. An example of of parasitism is the relationship between lice and humans because one organism, the human, is harmed while the organism, the lice, benefits because it drinks the blood of the human.

Current event- Mimicking robot

Who- A research team at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory and David Hanson, an American robot designer who is known for A Zeno robot he made at Hanson Robotics.

What- The research team and David Hanson created a robot, named Jules, that can mimic the facial expression you have on your face. This project has been going for the last three years and contains 34 motors. Jules has cameras in her eyes which she uses to scan a picture of the person's face and then try to copy the facial expression.

Where- At the Bristol Robotics Laboratory in England.

When- The creation of the robot started three years ago and finished a couple of weeks ago.

Why- Jules was created because the research team wanted to create a lifelike head and face that can it can interact with humans. Even though this still is not possible, Jules can mimic ten different facial expressions.

My opinion- I think Jules is a excellent robot and i think its really cool how technology can do such amazing things. Before we know it we will be able to interact with robots as easily as we can interact with other organisms!
